San Bernardino Sun reporter Joe Nelson had an excellent piece about disgraced District Attorney Mike Ramos and the campaign by Jason Anderson to unseat him.
But Nelson buried the lead.
It isn’t until the sixth paragraph that he drops this little nugget:
“Ramos’ candidacy comes in the aftermath of one of the biggest bungled corruption cases in county history, costing perhaps tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer money.”
This should be boilerplate language placed in the opening paragraph or two of every single article the San Bernardino Sun runs about DA Ramos from here on out. Because it is through that prism that all coverage should be based.
DA Ramos whines about how the Colonies defendants are merely seeking a puppet who will open the county taxpayers’ checkbook to pay for a settlement. What a load of horseshit.
The trial is over. DA Ramos’ case was so bad…so weak and pathetic…that the jury box literally exploded in cheers when they rested their case. That is how bad that case was bungled. And to add insult to injury, the defense team opted to not even put forth a defense.
In essence, the defense said to the jurors:
“You know, we have had our lives dragged through the mud for the better part of a decade and as much as we would like to drag Ramos and his pathetic case over the hot coals even more to exact some sort of revenge, we don’t want to punish you further.”
The Colonies defendants don’t need a puppet. THEY ALREADY WON!
And Anderson, assuming he wins, will not be making any decisions on settlements and payouts. That will be the Board of Supervisors.
So, good luck with your silly little spin that attempts to deflect from the reality, Mr. Ramos. The fact of the matter is this:
You were responsible for bungling the biggest corruption case in San Bernardino County history.
And I suspect voters are going to see that over, and over, and over…and photos of you with Governor Moonbeam and Senator Kamala Harris sent to targeted GOP voters.
