VICTORVILLE — The city touted its economic growth during its annual address Wednesday, announcing that negotiations had concluded to draw a “major” manufacturer to Southern California Logistics Airport that will create 100 new jobs.

VICTORVILLE — The investment banking firm entangled in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s crosshairs for an allegedly fraudulent municipal bond offering at the city’s airport says it can’t fund a defense and it was never actually the bond underwriter.

Southern California Logistics Airport was awarded a $6 million grant by the Federal Aviation Administration last month to rehabilitate nearly 1.8 million square feet of asphalt pavement with full-strength pavement and approximately 200,000 square feet of asphalt shoulders, as well as replace all runway markings removed during the construction.

VICTORVILLE — Parked airplanes dotted a wide expanse of concrete, nestled in hangars and lined up in rows in areas often mistaken for boneyards. During a recent tour of Southern California Logistics Airport, the massive logistics and industrial park seemed rather quiet while certain corners faded into the abandoned George Air Force Base housing not far away.

VICTORVILLE • The Securities and Exchange Commission recently amended its complaint alleging fraud in a 2008 municipal bond offering against the city, Assistant City Manager Keith Metzler and others. The SEC had to do so to comply with a federal judge’s order to show proof of earlier dismissed claims that the city and Metzler were also benefactors of ill-gotten gains.

VICTORVILLE • Attorneys for the city and its airport authority say they have negotiated the volume of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s most recent records request down from 6 million to 366,250, but even with 10 full-time contract workers reviewing approximately 4,000 documents per day it’s unrealistic to think they could meet a proposed April deadline.
