The California Secretary of State and San Bernardino County Election’s office released their lists of certified candidates Friday, detailing the make-up of six pivotal local races. The lists show not much changed in recent weeks with the exception of some fringe candidates not qualifying for the ballot.

Inland Empire voters returned Democrat and Republican incumbents to their respective congressional offices, and also elected a Democrat to a GOP-held seat on Tuesday.

Some are defending their seats for the first time. Others have been in Congress for years.
Regardless, incumbents in the 2014 Inland congressional races are favored to win re-election to two-year terms. They’ve raised more money than their challengers and, with one exception, represent districts friendly to their parties.

A bill approved this month blocking the federal government from asserting regulatory authority over many of the nation’s streams and wetlands was heralded by Rep. Paul Cook, R-Apple Valley, for protecting control of local waters.

WASHINGTON — Incumbency and established fundraising are two of the most powerful advantages two Inland congressmen have over their challengers in the June 3 primary battle.
Reps. Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley, and Ken Calvert, R-Corona, both have amassed war chests that outstrip their respective challengers by hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to Federal Election Commission filings released April 15.

Paul Cook said on Wednesday that while he agreed with some of the broad themes included in President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday evening, Obama’s speech was short on specific solutions to problems, including the “most important issue” facing Cook’s constituents in the High Desert.
