The pending retirement of San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator John McMahon has attracted four applicants to replace him.
The four men are Undersheriff Shannon Dicus, Sheriff’s Lieutenant and Loma Linda Mayor Phil Dupper, Clifton Harris and William Lowhorst.
Dicus will have the inside track when the San Bernardino County Board of Superisors meets later this month to take up the appointment to fill the remainder of McMahon’s current term, which ends in January 2023.
McMahon is the third consecutive sheriff to retire mid-term.
The elected post is up before voters in June 7, 2022. A candidate will prevail if they receive more than fifty-percent of the vote. Otherwise there will be a runoff election in November 2022.

Well this went as it always does. Sheriff retires mid term so he picks his successor. That’s how McMahon got it after all. Seems like a good choice after reading the Daily Press article. And someone needs to tell the mayor to ease off the donuts.
