ONTARIO – The University of La Verne College of Law will lose its provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association at the end of the month because of low pass rates by first-time bar takers.

ONTARIO – The American Bar Association this week denied the University of La Verne College of Law’s application for full accreditation.
The move by the association’s Accreditation Committee also means the college will likely lose its provisional accreditation status.

New Councilman Charlie Rosales was sworn into office as were incumbent Councilman Robert Rodriguez and incumbent Mayor Don Kendrick.

Claremont, La Verne and San Dimas could all have new city council members or mayors next year.
The four-week filing period for the March 8 election opened Monday, but while a number of candidates in the three cities have picked up nomination papers, no one has yet returned completed documents.

Just five city managers in California — and only one in the Inland area — earned more than Temecula City Manager Shawn Nelson in 2009, according to a survey.
Nelson, 51, earned $336,288 last year, an amount that includes his base salary, deferred compensation and other payouts, according to the survey released last month by the League of California Cities, an advocacy group for cities and towns. Nelson’s base pay is $291,571 a year, according to Temecula.

The La Verne City Council this week will decide whether to adopt an ordinance prohibiting smoking in city parks and facilities.
The ordinance includes smoking in any public park, facility, skate park, community center, trail, bikeway or any other area, building or structure operated or owned by the city.

LA VERNE – The City Council has approved a contract with Assistant City Manager Robert T. Russi to become the city manager, effective Aug. 6.
Russi will make $169,000 per year. He could make up to $195,000 by 2013 if he receives satisfactory evaluations from the council.
