The state Fair Political Practices Commission has fined San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairman Robert Lovingood $6,000 for failing to properly report various sources of income over a 4-year period.

According to a stipulation published on the commission’s website, Lovingood, of Apple Valley, agreed to pay the fine in connection with four violations of the Political Reform Act – all for failing to timely disclose sources of income on statement of economic interest forms, also known as Form 700s. Lovingood was fined $1,500 for each violation, according to the document published on the FPPC website. The commission is scheduled to ratify the action at its March 16 meeting. The columnist has come under fire after he penned a smear piece of a local candidate over the issue of Syrian refugees which contained inaccurate information and insensitive comments. He subsequently engaged in debates on Facebook whereby he presented false information as being fact.

In addition to posting insensitive comments on Facebook and subsequently deleting them, Rodriguez compared the threat of terrorism via refugees to peanut allergies. When San Bernardino County First District Supervisor candidate Angela Valles announced that she had discovered the federal government was dumping unvetted Syrian refugees in the City of Victorville nearly two weeks ago, it sent shockwaves throughout the campaign and region.

Supervisor Robert Lovingood, her incumbent opponent, completely bungled the response revealing that he was caught entirely flatfooted by Valles accusations that he was either asleep at the wheel and oblivious to the public safety issue, or in on the cover up.

In a candidate forum and numerous stories since, neither Lovingood nor anybody with the City of Victorville has expressed any opposition to the placement of Syrian refugees in that community.
