The campaign to unseat four-term San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos has launched another salvo.
It’s the second in seven days.
This time the committee opposing Ramos, Business Leaders for Fair & Ethical Government Supporting Anderson & Opposing Ramos for D.A. 2018, is castigating Ramos for misleading the public over the county’s crime rate and the drop-off in felony filings by his agency.
The mailer hits Ramos for filing 14-percent fewer felony cases, while violent crime in the county skyrocketed during the same period. It’s arguably a symptom of gross mismanagement of his office’s operation.
The period analyzed was from 2014 through 2016 using data from the California Department of Justice and the California Judicial Council.
The data paints a starkly different picture from what comes out of Ramos’ mouth.
Could be my favorite hit piece so far just because it’s the issues that count the most and it shows he needs to go. The average citizen will not be happy with a D.A. who is working less then the criminals. Get off the speaking circuit Ramos and do your job!
If my memory servers me right didn’t Ramos have some issue with interference in Grand Jury case investigations?
Maybe he filed 14 percent fewer felony cases because the legislature made many felony crimes now misdemeanors? Lol. The facts are clear. The producers of this “hit piece” know the numbers are not reflective on the DA’s job but reflective of govonor Brown and the California voters. Nice try.
Funny Mr Mills but the last time I checked every category shown on the mailing piece in chart form are STILL felonies not misdemeanors – they are increasing while the conviction rate is not. Hmmm maybe the D.A. was too busy posing for the cameras and creating wanted posters to pay attention to his JOB!
JAMES MILLS
And the Colonies’ case? Was that the fault of Gov. Brown and the California voters too?
James mills:
As I understand it, you feel that Mike Ramos poor performance in prosecuting felony cases is the Governors fault. Does that mean that the horrible (to quote one of the jurors) job he did in The Colonies prosecution was the Attorney Generals fault?
Repairman continually insisted that Neil Derry was arrested, despite the fact that he wasn’t. Your continual refusal to acknowledge the abysmal performance of Mike Ramos exhibits similar blind defiance.
Finally, if you are going to present “facts,” I recommend that you don’t use the word “Maybe” to lead off the sentence that presents them.
You heard it first here!
As to the Colonies case Brown has culpability in that case from start to finish.
He put his smiling face up there next to Ramos and told the world this case was the worst case in California history.
The State Attorney General is equally culpable.
All the responsible player have been named to date including Moonbeam in the pending lawsuit. I’d say this will be the biggest case of prosecutorial misconduct in state history and maybe in the top ten of this country.
If the dirt keeps coming out on the FBI/DOJ maybe not.
Even the felonies Mikey DID file more than a few were lost in trial.
He likes to file felonies for the media but then they get reduced to misdemeanors.
Just look at the Airport debacle. $1.75 million scandal and ONE Felony pleading WOW.
We need to talk about the bogus filings Ramos does at the behest of the Sheriff.
Those stats are what they are but the reality if far worse.
Terri,
Perhaps you should open your eyes before rendering an uninformed statement. The graphics depict a rise in felony crimes. The graphic is consistent with San Bernardino County rise in crime as is the entire state of California. That graphic is showing how crime has risen in those categories and is completely unrelated to the felony filing rate statement. Yes somebody is trying to make a point but the point they are trying to make has no reflection on the D.A. it is a result of California law that has reduced felonious crimes to misdemeanors. Of course if there are less felony crimes to prosecute due to judicial mandate, there will be less felony crimes to prosecute. And the rise in crime is directly correlated with that and is NOT unique to San Bernardino County. Nice spin.
Mills a uniformed opinion? That’s rich coming from a guy who spent several years talking trash about the Colonies case and many who posted here, only to be proven 100% wrong as stated earlier by Observer of Facts. If you’re going to suck up to Ramos via the keyboard maybe you should concentrate your efforts on the big issues that are beyond dispute.
For the uninformed:
It should be noted that San Bernardino County’s total criminal filings (Misdemeanor & Felony) actually dropped by 17.64% from 2014-15 to 2015-16
In neighboring Riverside County, total criminal filings increased, in the same period, by 8.2%, while felony case filings increased by 18.84%.
In the same time period of course!

May I suggest everyone look at page 61 at above referenced document and see that the filing rate of criminal applications is down across the state. By comparing to one county in the state hardly makes for a truthful mailer. The crime trend is San Bernardino is reflected statewide. Not as a result of a D.A. not doing his/her job. Nice try. Spin away.
Mills if Ramos is going to win why are you so worried?
Ramos is scum but Holts reminds me of a dirty diaper
So Mr mills, as I understand your argument, it’s not Ramos’s fault that crime is up while the number of felony cases he has filed has dropped. It’s the state’s fault due to release of criminals and reclassifying misdemeanors, hmmm. I’m sure the DA in Riverside who filed more felonies during the increase in crime would blame the state on his need to file more cases. Ramos would have been able to follow with a similar increase in case load if it weren’t for his fiscal mismanagement of his office. I did not notice the Riverside DA wasting 50 Mllion on a fake case the last 7 years to help his political profile. If that 50 million would have been spent on normal felony cases instead , he would have been able to file hundreds of more cases and kept up with Riverside, so take your political spin bullshit somewhere else, no one here is buying it, especially Election Day voters . By the way Mills, you better hope Anderson has more ethics than Ramos, or he might start arresting his political opponents like you, just like Ramos did. #newday
#14 be careful not to overload mills brain with to many factual statements. He only has one narrative for everything.
Anderson better step up his game. Only see a few small signs around town. Still no media blitz. He should be hitting the airwaves, big 4×8 signs on every corner etc…. A few hit pieces from Jeff is not going to cut it. People I talk to have no idea who Anderson is. Month and a half to go and it looks like his campaign is a bust before it even got off the ground.
Don’t forget about his sexual predator behavior? He is sick when it comes to vulnerable women especially his employees
