It didn’t take long for news of the frantic phone calls asking people to show up at a fundraising luncheon for embattled San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos to get out.
You know? Those calls to fill up a room in order to put the proverbial lipstick on a pig.
Ramos’ latest attempt at scraping together some campaign dough, by cajoling a handful of donors into thinking his campaign and re-election chances were just peachy, concluded with a loud thud Thursday afternoon.
The purported wake pulled a remarkably dismal attendance figure. Try a dozen souls.
That’s all that begging people to attend for free food could muster. I mean where was the event at? Burger King!
It was actually upstairs at Romano’s Italian Restaurant in downtown Redlands.
The day after the event the Mike Ramos for District Attorney 2018 campaign committee filed the required Form 497 Late Contribution Report. It’s a document used for disclosing donations of $1,000 or more. The report listed three donations, from obviously duped contributors, totaling a whopping $7,800.
But less than an hour later Ramos filed an amended Form 497 report showing a $4,400 donation had been returned. That revises the reported haul to just $3,400. A further review of Ramos’ campaign filing shows the donor in question, a San Manuel Tribal Member, had already previously given Ramos the maximum allowed contribution of $4,400, on 12/27/2017.
People have now figured out that Ramos’ political days are numbered and they’re starting to pick up the shovels full of dirt to throw on his political grave.
