While Republican Front-runner Donald Trump is barnstorming the southern states, his polling numbers continue to improve.
Trump and New Jersey Chris Christie delivered a lengthy speech to a large crowd in Bentonville, Arkansas on Saturday afternoon. The two men were slamming Florida U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.
The latest Reuters 5-day Rolling Tracking Poll has Trump hitting 44.2% nationally.
Trump is trailed by Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (20.7%), Rubio (14.0%), Retire Pediatric Neurosurgeon Ben Carson (10.3%) and Ohio Governor John Kasich (5.3%).
He also received a second endorsement from a sitting Governor, when Maine’s Paul LePage threw his support behind Trump.
Let’s also not forget that Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is informally advising Trump.
Another notable development is Cruz’s campaign pulling out of Alabama, where he is polling third. The fact that it’s a state with an evangelical slant is telling.
The Trump campaign is in the middle whirlwind campaign tour, visiting some 26 states in 25 days. It’s a dizzying pace that his opponents can’t match on a good day.
Simultaneously to Trump’s rise is the increasing pro-establishment chorus of talking heads and pundits, who have resorted to essentially begging the wealthy power brokers to unite against Trump. When in reality they should be joining him.
But then again. These are the same geniuses that couldn’t see this upheaval coming in the first place.
All of this while Trump continues to refuse offers of big money from wealthy donors.
