Mike Spence, chief of staff to San Bernardino County Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman, has been charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence.
The charge, filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney, alleges Spence was driving under the influence of a stimulant.
Spence is also a councilman for the city of West Covina.
A stimulant can include cocaine, crystal methamphetamine or methamphetamine. In rarer cases a prescribed medication can cause impaired driving.
This is the second drug-related arrest of a staff member for the Board of Supervisors in the past two years.
In 2015, a field representative for County Supervisor James Ramos was arrested for smuggling drugs into the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center – North Facility, located in Devore.
