In narrative rejected by county, whistleblower complaint alleges corruption, retaliation

Three current or former deputies who say they were rebuked for disclosing an alleged impound and ticket quota scheme entrenched within two High Desert sheriff’s stations will have their days in court.

  • California’s state and local public employee pension systems are caught in a vicious circle of rising outlays to retirees, very low pension fund earnings, higher unfunded liabilities and rising demands for more tax dollars.

Ron Seeling, the California Public Employees Retirement System’s chief actuary, believed he was speaking to a closed-door seminar in 2009 when he warned that public employee pension costs were becoming “unsustainable.”

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca told a federal judge Monday he wants to withdraw his guilty plea and stand trial in connection with a jail corruption scandal that has already taken down almost a dozen of his former deputies and his second in command.
