UPLAND >> Former City Manager Stephen Dunn said the effort to recall Mayor Ray Musser has failed to gather the necessary signatures.
Dunn said he had collected just shy of 4,400 signatures by last week’s deadline. He would have needed more than 7,800 signatures to force a recall.
Dunn vowed to campaign against Musser if the mayor decided to seek re-election in November.
“He’s not the right person for the job. He’s not what Upland needs to get through the issues, and until he isn’t there, there will continue to be hiccups in the city,” said Dunn, who led recall effort after a resident, Hall Tanner, filed the petition late last year.
On Friday afternoon, Musser said he was not surprised by the outcome.
“It was an attempt by Stephen Dunn to disturb, distract and create chaos, and he was doing that by way of a recall,” Musser said.
