San Bernardino Police Chief Jerrod Burguan addresses the media.

Inland Empire law enforcement agencies involved in the response to the act of terrorism at the Inland Regional Center are receiving stellar marks across the board.

As they should.

Cool heads prevailed in this tragic event.

In a matter of hours the two perpetrators were dead at the hands and hard work of police agencies.

Officers from the San Bernardino Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and several other allied agencies, acted with professionalism in response to the events of Wednesday morning.

In particular, San Bernardino Police Chief Jerrod Burguan is one cool character.

The chief, whose department was the primary lead agency, until the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) declared the event as an act of terrorism on Friday morning, displayed the utmost professionalism in community and media relations.

Burguan was articulate, thoughtful and available. No reasonable media question went unanswered.

Responding officers, communications dispatchers and emergency medical personnel in the field and at local hospitals carried the day. Coordinating and managing multiple agencies requires talent and skill.

All of this, and much more, was on full display Wednesday and Thursday.

It should also be noted that the nationwide critique of the local public safety response has been exemplary to say the least.

Thank you for your service.
