LOS ANGELES >> A deal that would transfer LA/Ontario International Airport to an Inland Empire authority is one step closer to final approval by the Los Angeles City Council.
The governing body for Los Angeles World Airports, the Board of Airport Commissioners, referred the deal to L.A. following a closed-session meeting Thursday morning.
“The Board of Airport Commissioners considered whether to approve settlement of the case … and made recommendations to the City Council whether to approve the settlement pursuant to (the) Charter,” announced Ray Ilgunas, attorney for LAWA. “Final approvals, if any there were, would be disclosed consistent with the requirements set forth in Government Code.”
The tone of Thursday’s meeting was the opposite of Monday’s meeting where a more ecstatic Ontario International Airport Authority discussed its review of the tentative agreement. None of the five LAWA commissioners addressed the news while Deborah Ale Flint, LAWA’s executive director, declined to comment after the meeting because the terms have not been disclosed.
