Cost rises to $31.1 million on troubled project to renovate building, which public defenders and probation staff will move into.

It will now cost $31.1 million — almost $12 million more than expected — to renovate the former Riverside County district attorney’s headquarters in downtown Riverside, adding expense to a project that’s been plagued by delays and structural problems.
