The idea is to recoup money spent on providing inmates legally required health care. Inmates can stay on Medi-Cal upon release assuming they still meet eligibility standards.

Riverside and San Bernardino are joining the rush of California counties seeking to enroll jail inmates in a government-run health insurance program to recoup millions of dollars in medical costs.
