Republicans once touted Orange County as “America’s Most Republican County” and the area was known nationwide as a GOP stronghold and fundraising Mecca. Could it one day be blue?

Republicans once touted Orange County as “America’s Most Republican County” and the area was known nationwide as a GOP stronghold and fundraising Mecca.

Today, there are 15 counties in California with higher percentages of Republican voters. GOP registration in every city in the county has shrunk over the past 20 years. Among voters 18 to 34, more are registered as Democrats than Republican. Among the growing Latino electorate, Democrats have a 29 percentage point advantage.

Republicans advantage countywide is 9 points and falling, increasing the once-unlikely possibility of Orange County turning blue.
