RIALTO >> For the first time in about five years the city will be able to balance its budget without pulling from reserves.

A budget workshop is being held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 150 S. Palm Ave., Rialto.

The city’s $61.8 million general fund for the 2014-15 fiscal year is about three million dollars less than the previous year.

George Harris, chief financial officer, said past layoffs, concessions by city employees and fewer projects throughout the city helped keep costs down and revenue up this budget year. No layoffs are expected this year.

“It’s pretty unique that we’re at a point where we’re balanced,” Harris said. “This year’s been a better year because we kind of got better control of the projects.”
