RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> Lloyd W. Michael, a key former general manager of what is today the Cucamonga Valley Water District, passed away earlier this month at the age of 90.

Michael is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Marian Michael. Their children are Dennis Michael, the mayor of Rancho Cucamonga, and daughters Marianne Quinn, Anita Schroeder, and Virginia Jones. Michael is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His memorial service was held on Monday.

“The overriding theme throughout this whole memorial service was the absolute unconditional love my mother and father had for each other over 70 years of marriage. Their deep sense of love truly has sustained their longevity. As children growing up, we never heard an argument,” said Dennis Michael.

A lifelong area resident, Michael was born in 1923 in Pomona.

After a courtship that started during their time at Chaffey High School, and a first date at the Fox Theater in Pomona, the Michaels were married on Dec. 31, 1942. Soon after, Michael joined the Army Air Corps and became a mechanic on P-47 fighter planes.

After the war, Michael became a citrus rancher, a board member for the Alta Loma Elementary School District, a water district board member, and general manager of the Cucamonga County Water District.
