UPLAND >> The City Council is moving forward with an agreement to merge staff at the Upland and Montclair fire departments and expand the service boundary between the cities.
The council also on Monday agreed to change dispatch and IT services from Ontario Communications Division to the San Bernardino County Comm Center in Rialto.
The two-year pilot program will begin in January with the merger of fire administration, followed by dropping the service boundary between Upland and Montclair in June.
Through the agreement, the city could save between $22,000 and $156,000 annually depending on the number of shared positions with Montclair.
Upland currently has six full-time administrative personnel, one part-time and one volunteer.
Montclair has five full-time administrative positions and one volunteer.
When combined, both departments will have 10 full-time administrative personnel, one part time and two volunteers.
Upland Fire Chief Rick Mayhew will also take on the helm of Montclair’s department, having to answer to both city councils and city managers and managing two budgets.
His compensation will be split between Upland, 67 percent, and Montclair, 33 percent, based on a 4 to 2 ratio.
