FONTANA >> “I know it’s a race weekend. I see all the motor homes loading up groceries” in the parking lot of grocery stores, said Mayor Acquanetta Warren.
Area hotels and motels and restaurants were looking forward to a better-than-usual weekend as customers came in from out of town.
Today’s race marked the end of the IZOD IndyCar Series for this year.
But excitement at Auto Club Speedway is far from over.
The Speedway and Las Vegas-based Exotics Racing announced a joint agreement to build a new building on the Speedway’s land and a 1.2-mile road course next to the Speedway’s two-mile D-shaped oval.
Las Vegas-based Exotics Racing offers individuals an opportunity to drive Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Porche and Austin Martin sports cars, capable of speeds toping 200 mph at affordable rates, said Josh Martin, the firm’s marketing director.
“This is a chance for many to realize their wildest dream: the opportunity to drive a car like this on a racetrack,” Martin said.
Packages to drive autos costing $250,000 or more start at $199 for five laps, Martin said.
Exotics Racing will start offering its dream rides on the Speedway’s two-mile oval-shaped tracks in December, Martin said.
“Location was the key” to Exotic Cars coming to the Speedway, Martin said. “The Southern California market is huge,”
The business will employ 30, he said.
Said Speedway President Gillian Zucker: “Anytime we get someone to visit the facility, they come back.”
