SAN BERNARDINO >> A longtime veteran of San Bernardino International Airport is moving up to the No. 2 job there.
Mark Gibbs, who has been airport manager since early 2012 and was an operations officer before that, has been chosen as deputy director for aviation, Executive Director AJ Wilson announced Thursday.
He’ll start his new job Sunday.
Gibbs said he would focus on interacting more with other agencies, including the county transportation agency SanBAG.
“I’m going to represent the airport a little more clearly, if you will,” he said, adding that his promotion is consistent with a new focus shown by the airport board approving a company Wednesday to market the airport. “It’s a matter of creating a vision, and making sure we’ve got the procedures and policies and buying into that common vision. That’s certainly an increased role that I’ll be playing.”
