SAN BERNARDINO • Trial was delayed once again in the case against Joe Gomez, the former Barstow mayor accused of misdemeanor sexual battery.
Gomez, who was not present in a San Bernardino courtroom Friday, would have gone to trial Monday, but Judge Michael A. Smith granted a continuance, effectively pushing trial until at least September, court records show.
A new hearing on trial readiness is scheduled Sept. 6, according to court records.
Deputy District Attorney David Foy was also not present at the hearing Friday, but insisted that the prosecution would have been ready to go to trial.
Foy said the defense requested the continuance.
