Assemblywoman Norma Torres said she wants to run for the state Senate seat that Gloria Negrete-McLeod will vacate when she goes to Congress.

“I am certainly looking at that. It is the natural flow for me,” Torres said. “The possibility of representing more Inland Empire residents is really exciting.”

Torres, D-Chino, is a former Pomona mayor.

Voters on Tuesday elected her to a third term in the Assembly.

Her Republican opponent in the past election, Kenny Coble, said he is also considering running for the open seat.

He plans to meet with Republican leaders today and Wednesday to discuss the possibility of running again.

“We’ll see what happens, it really depends on money,” Coble said.

Torres defeated Coble by a 65 percent to 35 percent margin. If she does not move to the state Senate, the win allows her to represent the 52nd Assembly District.
