MONTCLAIR – The committee for City council candidate Richard Beltran and the city’s two public safety associations have been accused by a resident of running a coordinated campaign.

Montclair resident Trisha Vincent filed a complaint with the Fair Political Practices Commission last week, claiming the three parties have conspired to run one campaign while creating the appearance of independent expenditures by using the same consultant.

Vincent said the confusion lies in the mailers sent out by the associations, which are made to appear like they were officially sent out by the city.

The flyers have the addresses of the police and fire department headquarters, Vincent states in her letter to the committee.

Incumbents John Dutrey and Carolyn Raft are facing a contentious election as the Montclair Fire Fighters Association along with the Montclair Police Officers Association have chosen not to endorse the incumbents amid pension and labor negotiations issues.

Challengers Sean Brunske and Richard Beltran have been backed by the public safety agencies.
