Following high-profile escapes by three inmates at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Facility over the summer, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is seeking to beef up security at the Devore jail.

RIVERSIDE — A Rancho Cucamonga man was sentenced Monday to 12 months and one day in prison for aiding Upland’s former mayor in soliciting a bribe from a city business.

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday asked for a federal investigation of Wall Street figures he accused of colluding “to restrain trade and to redline communities” over opposition to a controversial proposal to use eminent domain to prevent foreclosures in San Bernardino County.

SacBee: California economy ranked 9th largest in world

California’s economy is the world’s ninth-largest.

As for Sacramento, it’s No. 58, tied with Bangladesh.

The latest rankings, compiled from World Bank data and other sources, show that California remains one of the heavyweights of the global economy. But many countries are moving up quickly.
