The San Bernardino Superior Courthouse in Chino will be closed as of Jan. 1 due to a significant budget shortfall from the state, it was announced today.

Cases currently being heard in the Chino courthouse will be transferred elsewhere in the county.

It is anticipated that this closure will result in the reduction of at least 15 positions countywide.

The closure was one of several actions taken because of the reductions required throughout the county system.

Those changes:

— Partial closure of the clerk’s office in Needles. Currently, the Needles court is in session 3 days per month, while the Court Clerk’s Office is open every court business day. Beginning Oct. 1, the clerk’s office will be open only those three days per month that the court is in session. This change will result in the reduction of five positions.
