UPLAND – Mayor Ray Musser has thrown his hat in the ring for the city’s mayoral race in November.

Musser was appointed as mayor in February after serving on the City Council since 1998.

“I feel it’s time to get moving and have enough time to contact the people and listen to them,” Musser said. “I’ve had a lot of experience, and I think experience is needed.”

Musser was appointed following the abrupt resignation of former Mayor John Pomierski who was indicted in March 2011 on federal extortion and bribery charges and is due in court in July. He has pleaded not guilty.

Musser has run for mayor twice, losing twice to Pomierski.

Musser said that since his appointment to mayor, with the help of the council, he has led the charge to campaign finance reform, a new ethics code, changes in committee seats and eliminated council benefits.

City staff have been reviewing the placement of a rotating mayor initiative on the November ballot as well.

Musser said he is still hopeful to get it to voters.
