The PE: BALLOT: Americans Elect qualifies for ballot

SACRAMENTO – For the first time since 1995, a new political party has been certified for the California ballot.

The secretary of state’s office announced Monday that Americans Elect had turned in 1.09 million valid voter signatures to qualify for the June 2012 ballot. It needed 1,030,040 valid signatures.

The PE: RIVERSIDE: Charter group makes recommendations

Proposals to create a commission on sustainability, have Riverside’s internal city auditor report to the council, hold council runoff elections sooner, and a handful of less substantive changes have passed the first hurdle to getting into the city charter.

SAN BERNARDINO – City Manager Charles McNeely on Monday denied rumors swirling around City Hall that he will leave his post in January.

When reached by telephone and asked if he intends to step down, McNeely said, “At some point, yeah, but not now.”

Seven current and former employees of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, accused of forging training documents for increased pay in a decade-long scam, appeared briefly in San Bernardino Superior Court Monday for a pre-trial hearing.

Lawyers agreed to another continuance and set a new pretrial date for March 23.

CHINO – Although it’s months away, the city’s mayor and two councilmen have their eyes set on the prize – being re-elected to the City Council in the November elections.

Chino’s Mayor Dennis Yates – who will be entering his 20th year on the council – said the elections this year will be significant.
