The prospect of another state Republican Senate leader hailing from the Inland Empire is appearing more likely.

State Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, said on Tuesday it’s probable that Sen. Bob Huff, R-Walnut, will be his successor as Senate minority leader. Dutton is terming out of the Senate next year.

A recent preliminary caucus vote indicated Huff had the necessary votes to take over as leader of the 15 state Senate Republicans. Huff is currently chairman of the caucus, or second in command.

“Eight is the magic number in the caucus,” said Huff. He added, “I received more than eight and less than 15.”
