Filing period begins today for school district, council races

The election season is right around the corner for several local school districts and community colleges and one city council.

The filing period for the Nov.8 election starts today and ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 12.

The period will be extended to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 for any race in which an incumbent fails to file for re-election.

Sixteen seats will be up for grabs in Inland Valley school districts in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

Prospective school board candidates should contact their respective county registrar-recorder/county clerk for nomination papers.

Three seats will be up in the Bonita Unified School District, which includes schools in San Dimas and La Verne. Board members Jim Elliot, Glenn Creiman and Diane Koach currently hold the three seats.

Two seats will be contested on the Claremont Unified School District board. The incumbents are Beth Bingham and Hilary LaConte.

Mt. San Antonio College’s Rosanne Bader, Manuel Baca and Fred Chyr face re-election to the board of trustees.

Three Chaffey Community College District governing board seats – which are held by Paul Gomez, Lee McDougal and Gary George – are up for grabs. All three are seeking re-election.

Terms for Pomona Unified school board members Jason Rothman and Richard Rodriguez are concluding.
