Customs facility millions over budget

That sucking sound coming from the monolith San Bernardino International Airport (SBIA) is getting louder.

This time the project bleeding taxpayers is the never-to-be-used customs building located at the Northeast portion of the complex near the corner of Third Street and Del Rosa Avenue in San Bernardino.

This building construction project is reportedly now millions of dollars over budget.

A phrase that is synonymous with SBIA.

To date, approximately $150 million of redevelopment property tax increment has been spent at the former Norton Air Force base, with nothing to show in return.

The Inland Valley Development Agency has been subsidizing the airport for years, and is slated to continue to do so for years to come.

Talk of an airline or any other major operation coming to the base has quietly vanished as the stagnant Inland Empire economy remains on life support.

When all that can be touted is the testing of a new Boeing passenger jet at the facility, you know there’s a problem.

Get out the ear plugs.
