Upland City Councilmember Ken Willis was a lieutenant in Upland Mayor J.P. Pomierski’s reign in Upland. They were political allies, and each supported the other politically as leaders of a four-member cadre known as “Team Upland”.
Councilman Ken Willis was so enamored with “Mayor J.P.” that Willis said this about Pomierski on his own campaign website:
“Upland’s city council works because we have a team attitude. Mayor John Pomierski works with the City Council and many of the goals are the same.”
And Willis reiterated his support of Pomierski with this gem of a quote in solidarity with J.P. immediately after Pomierski’s home and City Hall offices were raided by federal investigators:
“Right now, I believe the mayor is innocent of any wrongdoing and may be the victim.”
And today? Facing the likely prospect of a recall election, Ken Willis said this to a local reporter from the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin:
“I’m heartbroken. I’m sick to my stomach. I’m highly disappointed and I’m angry.”
Whatchu talkin’ ’bout Willis?
Sorry Ken. Throwing J.P. under a bus now is too little, too late. You knew he was under federal investigation for the past NINE DAMN MONTHS!
As a city official, you had access to the federal search warrant. You were privy to the warrant’s contents and the explosive allegations contained therein.
It was YOU who attended a special meeting of the Upland City Council which detailed the allegations against J.P., and yet, you refused to call for Pomierski’s resignation.
Willis’ supposed newfound autonomy from J.P. is political expediency at its worst.
It’s time for a thorough house cleaning in that troubled city.
No wonder the recall of Ken Willis is picking up major momentum.
Ken Willis’ attempt at creating distance between himself and Upland’s most famous mayor rings hollow and reeks of political opportunism at its worst.
