Paul Biane did indeed have a rough 2010.

Biane, a republican, formally represented the second district on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. He was narrowly defeated by Janice Rutherford in a runoff election last November.

After his defeat, Biane indicated he would stay involved in county politics, and it appears he’s keeping his word.

Last week Biane, also a former chairman of the county Republican Central Committee, reportedly made an appearance at the groups monthly meeting.

On February 10, 2010, nearly one year ago, Biane was one of five people labeled as a “John Doe” in the ongoing investigation of the landmark $102 million settlement between the County of San Bernardino and Colonies Partners, L.P.

Two others, former County Supervisor Bill Postmus, and Jim Erwin, former chief of staff to County Supervisor Neil Derry, remain the only persons actually charged with alleged wrongdoing.

The announcement of the criminal complaint and related arrests by then Attorney General Jerry Brown and San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos, which was carried on local and national television networks, was the primary factor in Biane’s defeat at the polls.

Only time will tell if Biane can re-emerge into politics.
