The County of San Bernardino is reportedly still grappling with how to handle its projected 2011-12 fiscal year deficit.
A deficit now approaching $140 million, with still more rocks to turn over.
It’ll be interesting to see which heads eventually roll on the finance side of the administration. Chief Executive Officer Greg Devereaux is still getting his hands around a situation which is being described by insiders as a total mess.
A situation which occurred over a period of years.
County supervisors will very shortly have some tough choices on solutions to the budget imbalance. While the annual ongoing structural shortfall is not as high, the deficit still has to be addressed.
Should employees not agree to more concessions it’s going to be pretty ugly.
Former chief executive Mark Uffer, by way of a smoke and mirrors charade, left county supervisors in the dark as to the large liabilities he was leaving unchecked.
