Gov. Jerry Brown today appointed James Ramos, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians chairman, to the California State Board of Education.

Ramos, of San Bernardino, has been the tribe’s chairman since 2008. He also was re-elected in November to another term on the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees. Ramos is a Democrat.

The state education board sets K-12 education policy in the areas of standards, instruction materials, assessment and accountability.

Ramos was one of seven people Brown appointed to the 11-member board today.
