Paul Zellerbach was sworn in today as Riverside County District Attorney, taking the office from Rod Pacheco, whom he defeated in the June election after one term.

Zellerbach, 57, of Riverside was sworn in by 4th District Court of Appeal Associate Justice Tom Hollenhorst in the ceremonial Court Room 1 at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Riverside.

The Sun: Redlands council to discuss cuts

REDLANDS – The City Council will meet Tuesday to take another look at possible ways to fill the $1.3million deficit remaining in the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

The new council first looked at the shortfall at a special meeting Dec. 14 and took a second look on Dec. 21. The council took no action to fill the gap but asked City Manager N. Enrique Martinez to provide additional details on potential budget reductions they might make this month or next.

The Sun: San Bernardino County launching Vision Project

San Bernardino County has launched a monthlong outreach seeking the public’s input on the future of the region.

Known as The Vision Project, the joint effort by the Board of Supervisors and San Bernardino Associated Governments, the county’s transportation authority also known as Sanbag, includes an Internet survey and 15 community meetings around the county.

In 2006, a state-funded center serving developmentally disabled people spent $2.9 million to develop four houses for its clients in Riverside County.

Just months after the houses were completed, the county assessor’s office estimated the properties were worth $1.1 million less than the Inland Regional Center had paid to build them.

Four years later, they’re worth 31 percent of their cost.

The broad set of budget cuts that Gov.-elect Jerry Brown will propose in the coming days would touch nearly all Californians, eliminating local redevelopment agencies, shrinking social service benefits, shuttering parks and reducing library hours, according to a source familiar with his budget proposal.
