The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider a proposal to increase the amount of professional consulting contracts requiring board approval from $50,000 to more than $100,000.

Current policy requires Board of Supervisors’ approval for consulting contracts or executive contracts exceeding more than $50,000.

If approved, County Administrative Officer Greg Devereaux would have sole discretion to approve consulting contracts between $50,000 and $100,000.

County spokesman David Wert said the aim is to make San Bernardino County uniform to practices in other counties.

“There’s been a review of county practices compared to what goes on in other counties, and this is the standard practice of other counties,” Wert said.

He said the other goal is to reduce the number of items that go before the Board of Supervisors that really do not need to go before the board, which frees up staff time and scheduling.
