When it comes to San Bernardino County government business the duplicity just never ends.

Especially when trying to deceive and cover-up.

The latest from the brain trust within this troubled local government is breathtaking to say the least.

We’re getting word form inside sources that county lawyers are now advising management, particularly within the sheriff’s department, to avoid using the county email system to communicate on personnel matters or issues that are legally sensitive in nature.

Lawyers are instead advising the use of either telephonic or in-person communications in the alternative.

The reasoning being used here is that communications of a sensitive nature can be subpoenaed in civil cases and thus used against the county.

In recent years the county, particularly the sheriff’s department, have been battered by email discovery that has proven rather costly.

Remember this is happening in a local government. Not a private business.

This is a clear sign that transparency in San Bernardino County government is gone.

Whoever conjured up this appalling and poorly thought out idea should be fired. The fact that the legal advice leaked out is even more problematic.

And yes. The Banana Republic title is well-deserved here.
