SAN DIEGO — A little over two months after he said that Donald Trump would be disastrous for the Republican Party, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, on Thursday said the business tycoon is the best candidate for president.

He said that Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton would be like a third term for the Obama Administration, and that “Donald Trump is the obvious choice for every American suffering from eight years of disastrous economic policies and anti-job regulations that have caused real pain to tens of millions of Americans who need and deserve better.”

Issa previously supported Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who dropped out of the GOP primary process in March.

On talk radio in January, Issa said of Trump, “He motivates some, but he also alienates a vast amount.”

Issa also took issue with the way Trump treated his rivals on the debate stage, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who dropped out of the race this week. Issa noted that Kasich would be a likely member of a Republican administration, should Clinton be defeated.
