A jury award in an unlawful termination case against San Bernardino County speaks volumes as to why the county, up until now, has never taken cases to trial in recent history.

Local blog iePolitics is covering a civil case brought by former San Bernardino County Fire Department Battalion Chief George Corley.

Corley, who alleges he was constructively discharged during an effort to bring in outsiders to run the agency, decided to present his case after a couple paltry settlement offers from the county hierarchy.

The result, let’s just say, didn’t go in the county’s favor.

A San Bernardino County civil jury awarded Corley $704,000 in damages.

It’s no secret the county is a troubled organization that runs more like a Banana Republic than a local government.

The county’s track record on taking cases to jury trial really stinks. So it’s perplexing as to why the county chose to roll the dice this time.

Among the witnesses testifying were Chief Executive Officer Greg Devereaux, Former Human Resources Director Andrew Lamberto, Fire Chief mark Hartwig, Former Fire Chief Pat Dennen and Former Union President Brett Henry.

It’s reported that some jurors, after the trial concluded, expressed they had some credibility issues with some of the witnesses.

County supervisors, if they’re paying attention, can’t be happy.

Given that it’s San Bernardino County…….No one should be surprised…….
