Donald Trump is not sold on Kevin McCarthy as the next speaker of the House, calling into question the California Republican’s negotiating skills and his statement earlier this week regarding the House Select Committee on Benghazi and its effect on the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t know him, but certainly he’s not off to a great start,” Trump said in an interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Friday, in response to a question about whether he thought the California Republican would make a good speaker. “It would have been nice if he didn’t say it, certainly, because then there’d be no dispute and you get on with Benghazi as a very serious group of people that have been working on it for a long time.

McCarthy made waves earlier this week during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity in which he remarked that everyone thought Clinton was “unbeatable,” but her “numbers are dropping” in the wake of the investigation by the Benghazi special committee.
