Donald Trump, the celebrity GOP presidential candidate who has stumped campaign pundits by drawing huge crowds and maintaining a steady lead in the polls, will speak Sept. 15 at the Battleship USS Iowa in San Pedro.
Trump is expected to draw a crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 people, according to the sponsors of the event, Veterans for a Strong America.
“This will be his major national security address,” said Joel Arends, a veteran of the Iraq War and chairman of the nonprofit Veterans for a Strong America. “What that’s going to be, we don’t know. But we think he’s going to want to address issues like the VA, rebuilding the nation’s military and our national foreign policy.”
Because of limited space on the ship, the event will be staged on the pier next to the Iowa, berthed along Harbor Boulevard near First Street, with the World War II battleship serving as a backdrop.
Seating will still be limited, said Arends, who encouraged people to purchase tickets online soon at www.veteransforastrongamerica.org/.
Tickets are $1,000 for premiere seating, $250 for preferred seating and $100 for general admission. Proceeds pay for the event and also go toward the work of the VSA, Arends said.
