House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has raised $9 million for Republicans since the beginning of the year, a hefty haul for the No. 2 Republican, according to an aide.

McCarthy’s (Calif.) ability to fill the party’s campaign coffers will be under a microscope in the coming months. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has pulled in $28 million this year, illustrating the massive void that will be left if he retires.

But McCarthy is fundraising at a very healthy pace, according to an aide who previewed his fundraising numbers before they were released publicly.

McCarthy has transferred $1.25 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee, and he has given $620,000 directly to fellow Republicans since the beginning of 2015, according to the aide.
