Senator Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) has announced he will not run for reelection in 2016.

Reid’s decision comes on the heels of his Democratic Party losing control of the U.S. Senate under his leadership.

Reid, 75, has been struggling with health issues after he smashed his face, specifically his right eye socket and orbit, in a purported exercising accident. Reid’s political trajectory has also has also been affected by state and federal investigations that focus on his relationship and activities with some of his donors from his home State of Nevada.

It’s no secret Reid would have faced a tough reelection bid.

The decision increases the strong possibility of a GOP pickup.
