Democrat

Saturday, February 2015 – 09:30 a.m.

It just keeps getting worse for Democrats nationally. The Obamacare steamroller was operating at full speed this week.

Where do I start?

Penalties

Let’s start off with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) penalty and tax reporting debacle.

Individual and Joint taxpayers are just now finding out about the penalties for 2014, and they’re not too pleased.

Individuals who are uninsured, and who aren’t exempted, will pay $95 or 1% of their income, whichever is greater. The penalty that is deducted from any refund or added to any tax due. For 2015, the penalty will climb to $325 or 2% of income, whichever is greater. For 2016, the penalty is $695 or 2.5% of income, whichever is greater.

For Families it really gets ugly.

Uninsured, who aren’t exempted, will pay $285 or 1% of their income, whichever is greater. The penalty will also deducted from any refund or added to any tax due.

For 2015, the penalty will climb to $975 or 2% of income, whichever is greater. For 2016, the penalty is $2,085 or 2.5% of income, whichever is greater.

After 2017, all penalties will be adjusted for inflation.

Bogus Tax Documents

Now let’s deal with the tax reporting debacle, courtesy of IRS Form 1095.

It seems that roughly 800,000 people, who bought insurance on the Healthcare.gov website, received erroneous forms. They’ll have to wait for amended forms before they can file their 2014 tax returns. If they’ve already filed, then they’ll have to file amended returns.

Oops!

Then there’s the Covered California Exchange.

California mailed out, at last report, mailed out 100,000 bogus tax documents.

Enrollment

Then there’s the latest open enrollment period, which closed on February 15.

The “flexible” numbers weren’t so hot. Early this week President Obama proclaimed that 11.5 million had enrolled. That number had dropped to 10 million by Friday.

Millions of people remain uninsured, and subject to penalty for the 2015 tax year.

Now the federal exchange and Covered California will have an extended open enrollment period that will close on April 30.

The Reaction

All the crap enraged taxpayers and scared the hell out of Democrats, who demanded extended open enrollment and relief from penalties. Republicans are watching the whole debacle with a smirk.

Well it’s too late for the outrage. If any politician, especially ones that voted for the Affordable care Act, didn’t know this was going to happen, they should be sent packing and handed a dunce cap to boot.

Bad Outcome?

I’ve been saying Obamacare will, on its own, undermine the Democratic Party. And it is.

Republicans have another opportunity to secure a tighter grip on Congress and possibly take The White House in 2016. There will definitely be more House and Senate seats up for grabs, because of Obamacare, many of them will be Democrat.

California is an exception to the rule though. It’s the only state where stupidity prevails on a regular basis. Even though the state has been plundered, with out of control taxes and government giveaways, it’ll still vote blue.

It’s a main reason Pete Aguilar (D-Redlands) and Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Springs) could actually keep their respective seats in a likely higher turnout 2016. In almost any other state, they’d be toast.
