Former Assemblywoman and state Senator Sharon Runner made it official Wednesday, declaring that she will run for the recently vacated state 21st Senate District seat, which includes the Victor and Antelope valleys.

Runner’s announcement comes a day after Gov. Jerry Brown called for a March 17 special election to fill the seat that was left vacant when former state Sen. Steve Knight was sworn in earlier this month to Congress.

“I’ve truly been moved by the outpouring of support from friends and colleagues in local government, community leadership and most importantly from my family,” Runner said in a statement.

She had already said late last month that she was taking steps toward making a run. She joins Hesperia Mayor Eric Schmidt, Victorville business owner Sal Chavez and Lancaster law firm co-owner Star Moffatt as having so far publicly stated their intentions to seek the office.
