Mike Ramos

San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos has formally established his campaign commitee and website for California Attorney General in 2018.

It’s been no secret that Ramos has had aspirations for higher office. The big question is will Ramos, at last report a registered Republicans, change his party affiliation to Democrat?

The website would appear to make no mention of Ramos’ party registration.

The 2014 mid-term election, even with it’s lackluster voter turnout, showed just how tough it is to win statewide office as a member of the California Republican Party. Ramos’ more recent habit of endorsing Democratic candidates over Republican has also not went unnoticed.

Ramos will be campaigning to replace current Attorney General Kamala Harris, who cannot seek a third term in office. Harris is rumored to be interested in running for either Governor or a seat in the U.S. Senate. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom is also interested in replacing Governor Jerry Brown.

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein is up for reelection in 2018, while junior U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer will be up in 2016. If either retire the door will be open for a new face.

But, for Harris,  the Governorship would seem more plausible, unless Democrats retake control of the U.S. Senate.
