With more than 15,000 ballots still left to count countywide, races in Colton and Rialto have some candidates still hoping to steal back top spots that had appeared to be theirs early in the race last week.

Despite dropping during the first three months of the year, state government tax revenue continued to surpass pre-recession levels through the end of June, according to a new study by The Pew Charitable Trusts.

For the 10th straight year, Irvine was ranked by the FBI as the safest U.S. city with a population of more than 100,000.

The lowest violent-crime rate in city history last year netted Irvine its 10th straight title as the safest big city in the nation, officials announced this week.
