InlandPolitics: Financial improprieties rumored at San Bernardino County union

A shoe has finally dropped on a former executive of San Bernardino County’s largest public employee labor union.

The San Bernardino Public Employees Association (SBPEA), via a public statement, has made alleagtions of malfeasance against Former General Manager Bob Blough.

Blough, who abruptly departed last year, is accused of obstructing an audit of union finances and the improper expenditure of union funds.

SBPEA says it took outside auditors a year to untangle all the paperwork, in order to get to the bottom of the situation. It’s an explanation that falls flat on its face.

County officials were aware of the allegations a year ago, when Blough was fired. In other words, it wasn’t a secret.

The performance of annual outside audits of union finances is a no-brainer. How Blough thought he could interefere with such a process is an interesting concept, unless the governing board and staff were asleep at the wheel.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
